Rsl Art Union | The Story Behind The Badge | RSL Logo
The RSL badge is a well recognised icon within the Australian community. It’s a symbol of the commitment showed throughout time by those who served for our great country and the Crown. The symbolic nature of the badge is quite intricate, with every element of the badge telling a story.
Within the centre of the badge, encircled by the Returned Services League (RSL), are a sailor, soldier, airman and service woman marching together with their arms linked in firendship. This is to show that within the circle of the League, all Services and all Ranks march together in unity and comradeship.
Above the figures of War is the wattle, a symbolic native flower of Australia. This is supported by the leek, rose, thistle and shamrock representing the link with Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland.
Within the badge, the colour red represents the blood tie of war that exists between comrades. White stands for the purity of motives in joining the League, and the blue indicates the willingness to provide that service to a comrade anywhere under the blue sky – wherever he or she may be.
