Mater helps young Mackenzie to battle Meningococcal disease!

Mackenzie touches the hearts of many!

Mackenzie beat the odds with the help of Mater Hospital care!

Mackenzie made headlines earlier this year when he was admitted to Atherton Hospital with a high fever and a rash. His condition rapidly deteriorated and he was rushed to Cairns Base Hospital and diagnosed with Meningococcal disease. He was then transferred to Brisbane’s Mater Hospital where he was put on life support.

After spending nine days in an induced coma while his tiny body battled the disease, Mackenzie beat the odds and woke on April 2, surrounded by his family.

Dad Jeremy credits his son’s recovery to his fighting spirit and the exceptional care he received whilst sick. “We are just so grateful that Mackie was in such great hands. The staff at Atherton, Cairns and the Mater were just amazing all round” he said.

Since being discharged, Mackenzie has slowly started to regain his strength with the help of ongoing treatment at the Mater, although the youngster will require a kidney transplant as a result of his illness.

Please help the Mater Children’s Hospital to care for seriously ill children like Mackenzie by purchasing your ticket in Mater Prize Home Lottery.
